Synthesis of Diaryliodonium Triflate Salt
To a dry stoppered 25 mL round bottom flask 2 mL of dichloromethane was added using a needle. In order for the flask to have inert atmospheric conditions, a needle was inserted into the stopper to fill the flask with argon gas. Then 116 mg of mCPBA was added. Next, 54.43 μL of bromobenzene and 130.13 mg of 1-bromo(4-iodo)-benzene were added. 210 mL of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TfOH) was added. The solution then turned a dull orange color. The solution was then stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. It was then put into a rotary evaporator at 25°C. This compound was then dissolved with diethyl ether. The new solution was then stirred for 10 minutes and then put in the fridge for 30 minutes. It was then concentrated with a rotary evaporator.
